Description
The KABUTOWARI (helmet breaker)also known as
hachiwari (skull breaker)
is the
truncheon-type.
The truncheon-type was blunt
, cast iron
or forged truncheon-like weapon resembling a jutte. I
t was usually blunt and not meant for stabbing. This Kabutowari
(hachiwari) is 18 inches long with a black cord wrapped handle and blackened steel finish.
The JUTTE was
a specialized weapon
that was used by police in Edo-period
Japan. Its was a truncheon with a hook at the hilt. The jutte here is
15.5 inches long with a black cord wrapped handle and the shaft is round with a blackened steel finish.
The TESSEN (tenarashi-gata) is a solid bar of metal shaped like a folded fan. This tessen is 12 inches long with a blackened steel finish and black cord wrapped handle.
The KUNAI was a Japanese masonry tool that was used as an improvised weapon by the shinobi (ninja) and samurai. There is no sharp edge on the kunai however there is a some what sharp point. As a weapon it was used for striking and puncturing. It can also be thrown. This kunai is on the smaller side and has a more traditional shape, it is 10.25 inches long with a cord wrapped handle.
